In 1940, a young Canadian mechanical engineering graduate of the University of Michigan searched through Michigan for a place to call home, to raise his family and to pursue a career in heating and air conditioning. Ernie Fox looked at several areas, finding the Lansing area, with the triple advantages of being the Capital, home of the Oldsmobile, and close proximity to MSU, as the best site to accomplish these goals. He approached the Hager-Cove Lumber Company, situated near the railroad on Pennsylvania Avenue, with the idea of adding a heating and air conditioning branch. They agreed to let him try. In 1947, Hager-Fox Heating came into existence. A Kitchen Department was added in 1949, which provided beautiful cabinetry to many Lansing area homes. Throughout the years, Hager Fox added products as needed to meet a changing building market. Wayne Premer, who had headed the Heating Department for 40 years, purchased the company in 1988. After his unexpected death in 1991, his wife and sons ran the company. In 1993, Rich Rau and associates purchased the stock of Hager Fox. The new management team imparted a new spirit of "can-do-ness"
